Dolpa, Nepal — In the remote hills of Dolpa, 40-year-old Rupdhani Sarki has spent her life working tirelessly to provide for her family. With only a tiny patch of land that yields no more than 10 kg of crops, she and her husband struggle to feed their six family members on what little they earn from daily labor. Even festivals like Dashain bring anxiety rather than joy — the family once had to ask a niece for a sack of rice just to celebrate, promising to repay it by working extra days.
A family living in a remote area of Dolpa is facing serious hardship due to poor land and low crop production. According to a recent news report, no matter what crops they plant, the family is unable to grow more than 10 kilos of food from their small garden. This has made daily life extremely difficult, as they depend mainly on daily wage labor to survive.
Due to limited income, the family struggles to manage daily meals, children’s school needs, and warm clothing during the harsh winter season. Food insecurity and cold weather remain constant challenges for the household.
In response to the family’s difficult situation, VG Foundation provided a support worth NPR of 50,000 including,
• Daily basic food supplies to help the family meet their regular food needs
• Stationery items for school-going children to support their education
• Warm blankets to protect the family during the winter season
At the same time, VG Foundation also supported the local school by distributing warm clothes to students, helping protect children from the cold and enabling them to continue their education during the winter season.
